Hurry Up, Harry
By Julia A. Keirns
His mother and father were dressed for church and ready to go, but he was still eating breakfast.
“Hurry up, Harry,” said his mother. “We don’t want to be late.”
“Okay,” he said.
Harry finished eating and went upstairs to get dressed. It wasn’t long before his father hollered, “Hurry up, Harry. It’s time to go.”
“Okay,” he said.
When they returned home from church, his mother said, “Hurry up, Harry. Go put on your play clothes. We are going to Grandma’s house today.”
“Okay,” he said.
Harry liked going to Grandma’s house. She lived on a big farm in the country. She had a big dog named Jake. He liked to play with Jake.
It wasn’t long before he heard his father holler up the stairs again. “Hurry up, Harry. It’s time to go.”
“Okay,” he said.
When they got to Grandma’s house, he ran to go play with Jake. It wasn’t long before he heard his mother holler, “Hurry up, Harry. It’s time to eat.”
“Okay,” he said.
After supper, he stayed inside to play with toys. Grandma had much better toys at her house. She would buy special toys just for him to keep at her house. That way he would always have something fun to play with whenever he came to visit.
It wasn’t long before his father said, “Hurry up, Harry. Pick up all the toys. It’s time to go home.”
“Okay,” he said.
Harry had to take a bath before he went to bed. He had been playing outside with Jake at Grandma’s house and was dirty. Tomorrow was a school day. He didn’t want to go to school dirty.
He played with his boats in the tub. But it wasn’t long before his mother came in and said, “Hurry up, Harry. It’s time to get out of the tub now and get your pajamas on. It’s time for bed.”
“Okay,” he said.
Harry kissed his mother and father goodnight and toddled up the stairs.
“Hurry up, Harry. Go to bed now,” said his mother. “It’s getting late.”
“Okay,” he said.
Harry crawled into bed, folded his hands and prayed, “God bless Mommy and Daddy, Grandma and Jake, all my friends, my teacher, and my teddy. Amen. Oh wait, and God bless Hurry Up Harry too.”
