Horatio, the Haunted Hallwayman
By Julia A. Keirns
Clip-clop, clip-clop, clip-clop.
Billy was afraid to breathe. Something was coming down the hall toward his room.
Clip-clop, clip-clop, clip-clop.
He covered every inch of his body with both blankets and the quilt. It was coming closer.
CLIP-CLOP, CLIP-CLOP, CLIP-CLOP!
It was louder now. It had come down the hall and stopped right outside his bedroom door.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
This is it, thought Billy. This is the end! Horatio, the Haunted Hallwayman has finally come to take me away!
The door opened slowly, with a long, eerie squeeeeeaaaaak.
He stopped breathing for just a second. Then he heard…
“Would you get up already,” said his little sister Susie, who was wearing their mother’s high-heeled shoes. “You’ll miss the bus!”
Then the clip-clop, clip-clop, clip-clop slowly faded away as she walked back down the hall.
Whew. For now he was safe. But…Horatio, the Haunted Hallwayman could still be out there, somewhere, waiting to take him away.
