Grumpy Bear
By Julia A. Keirns

A little story about this poem. When our youngest son was 2 years old he was very sick with pneumonia and was in the hospital for 10 days. Painted on the wall of his room was one of the Care Bears – Grumpy. We looked at Grumpy Bear a lot during those 10 days. I wrote this one night while he was sleeping.

On the wall in front of me
I see a grumpy bear
Looking mad and feeling sad
As he’s standing there.
As blue as blue
No smile I see
All he does is stare at me.
He fits the part
Old grumpy bear
Painted on the wall up there.
On his tummy
Dark rain cloud
Raindrops falling down.
I watch his eyes
And see his face
It’s covered in a frown.
Cheer up grumpy
Dry your eyes
I will be okay.
The doctor says I’m better now
I go home today!

Storybird review – What a fun poem! I like the story it tells and all the imagery it uses to do so. Excellent work! Reviewed by RachelPaige
