Winter
By Julia A. Keirns

Beyond these walls
the wind blows cold
Snowflakes fall to the ground.
Winter surrounds
our world with white
The silence seems to grow loud.
All is asleep,
so calm and at peace
The flowers, the grass, the trees.
The birds are no longer singing
The butterflies no longer fly
Wintertime is here once more
And once more I ask why.
