Uncertain Times
By Julia A. Keirns

Drilled into our consciousness
The words on the news ring out
These are uncertain times we live in
But why must it be so.
I am certain that I woke up alive this morning
I still have to go to work
I get in my car, it is filled with gas
Another day – off I go.
The grocery store is open
The electric bill is due
Uncertainty is not my guide
I can still choose to say no.
Yes, these are uncertain times my friend
But no more than any other time
Tomorrow is never guaranteed in the end
Life still leads to death
But today the blood in my veins still flows.
