Time
By Julia A. Keirns

My three children as babes – Bradley, Dayna, and Alan

I contemplate pictures of my children as babes
And realize from time there is no escape.
Days become weeks
Weeks become years
The clock never stops turning its gears.
Time goes by and I slow down
To think and remember and look around.
I pay more attention
I hear so much more
I savor each moment as it passes before.
My eyes see the past in the present today
And my children have grown in such a wonderful way.
My hope and desire
My one wish would be
That someday as they contemplate pictures of me
They too would recognize the passage of time
Has no end in sight
No pause
Just a crime of stealing away
The moments by day
Weeks, months, and years
Until at the end
Time stops for me
And all that will be left
Are memories and tears.
So bask in the moment
And appreciate each day.
Time will pass faster
Than you can wish it away.
