My American Sightseeing Blog

The RV

May 2022

Hello. I figured the best place to start my blog about seeing America is to show you the RV. We lucked out in acquiring this beautiful motorhome from a family member. It is a 2002 Winnebago Sightseer and we absolutely love it. It is a Class A 28 foot. The inside is roomy even with the slide closed. We have plenty of room to walk back to the bed or bathroom and can even open the refrigerator. This is nice when we pull into a rest area to sleep for the night.

Getting rid of everything in the house that would not fit in the motorhome was the first challenge. When we decided to sell the house we did not immediately plan to move into an RV full time. It was a process of looking for a rental and finding nothing available. What was available was either too expensive or did not allow animals. Forest is part of the family and where we go, he goes. The decision to buy the RV came through the process. Once the decision was made, it became a matter of deciding whether we were going to go all in, or pay for a storage facility. We both decided to go all in, especially once we found out how expensive it was to rent a storage place.

The purge began. We started by listing large items for sale on Facebook Marketplace and all of our local garage sale sites. Every few weekends we hosted a yard sale or garage sale. As things sold, I began to realize that I didn’t miss them. We had so much stuff we didn’t use, and didn’t even remember we had. We began to get used to the idea and letting go of things became easier.

Moving into the RV made me realize I actually had a lot of room. We probably could have kept more than we did, but keeping the weight down was important too. We have now been living in the RV for one month and we have already found a few things we don’t need. There are always thrift stores in every town to donate to.

In case you didn’t know, we are from Ohio, both born and raised. We are not as avid Ohio State Buckeye fans as the previous owner of the motorhome was, but we are loving the design and colors. Check out the refrigerator.

We love the fact that this motorhome is a one of a kind. Personally wrapped and decorated. So if you see us driving down the highway, honk at us. Rich will probably think he did something wrong, but no worries. Hope to see you out on the highway. Come back tomorrow and I will tell you about our first days traveling.

Next post is titled Just the Basics.

Rich and I have done a lot of traveling in our lives. I wish I would have always written about each adventure, but sometimes life just gets too busy. We began full time RVing in April 2022, but I didn’t start writing about it regularly until December 2022. That’s when I started blogging regularly on Medium. Following is a list of the travel articles I have written on Medium.

You are allowed to read three articles per month for free. Or for $4.99 per month you can become a member of Medium through my referral link and read unlimited articles by all the writers on Medium. Membership also gives you the right to like an article by clapping and leaving comments.
