My American Sightseeing Blog
The Olympic Peninsula & Olympic National Park
The northwest region of the State of Washington is beautiful and breathtaking with its rugged cliffs and rocks along the coastline, its rainy weather contributing to the lush green forests and tall evergreen trees, and the spectacular snowy mountain views.
Olympic National Park was one of the top destinations to see on our bucket list. Covering almost one million acres, there is too much to see in one day, but on our first daytrip we drove Highway 101 on the northern border through Sequim (pronounced Squim) to Port Angeles and entered the park on Hurricane Ridge Road. This is a gorgeous 18-mile drive up the mountains to a visitor center and a beautiful view at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet.
We saw several deer along the route.
The views are breathtaking.
Back on 101 we headed west on the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway along Lake Crescent and into the town of Forks. Yes, it was raining as you can tell by the picture of the sign.
We continued all the way to Ruby Beach and saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time in our lives.
We will be in the area for a month and I am sure we will take many more excursions through this fascinating area, so stay tuned.
Next post is titled Olympic National Park – Day 2.

Rich and I have done a lot of traveling in our lives. I wish I would have always written about each adventure, but sometimes life just gets too busy. We began full time RVing in April 2022, but I didn’t start writing about it regularly until December 2022. That’s when I started blogging regularly on Medium. Following is a list of the travel articles I have written on Medium.
You are allowed to read three articles per month for free. Or for $4.99 per month you can become a member of Medium through my referral link and read unlimited articles by all the writers on Medium. Membership also gives you the right to like an article by clapping and leaving comments.
