A Closed/Open Window With a View
by Julia A. Keirns
What’s the view out your window?
We all have windows in our house. But are they closed or are they open?
Open windows-
Some people keep the windows open and let all the light in. The blinds are up and the curtains are pulled open. They want to see outside. They want to see the sunlight or the rain. They want the light or darkness from the outside to enter into their existence. They watch the cars drive by on the road. They watch the clouds in the sky and the birds in the trees. They openly participate in their world.
I believe that people who keep the windows open also keep their hearts open. They are willing to be vulnerable. They join into their existence.
Closed windows-
Other people keep the windows closed. The blinds are pulled and the curtains are drawn. The rooms are dark. They call it privacy. They don’t want others to be able to see in and invade their home. They might hear the thunder outside and know it is raining, or they might hear a car go by, but it has nothing to do with them. They have withdrawn from their world. They desire their privacy.
What’s the difference?
The view out our window says a lot about what kind of person we are. Are we closed off from the world and just biding our time? Are we hiding from life? Or are we interacting with the world and living life to the fullest?
